One Monkey
by Mary Panza
How do you crown your
Kings and Queens
Can you be bought for the price of an underpoured
Cocktail
And mock
Sincerity
What is the sacred jewel in the ring that every one kneels down to
Kiss
And call you
Mother of all of Lark Street
Are you making up for the prom you never attended or
Bathing in the blood young waitresses and bartenders
So you will never grow old or up
Is the crown you have on made of broken glasses and "tips"
that should have gone in someone else's register
It is a very small kingdom and three blocks in any direction
No one knows who you are
Among
Cokeheads, gangsters, wannabe gangsters, rapists, assholes, murderers
And thieves
So for the price of an underpoured drink and
Mock sincerity
Is it so good to be
Queen
